Our man Shia is reportedly interested to sign in Oliver Stone‘s next project Pinkville, replacing Channing Tatum who was initially to play the part.
Director Oliver Stone revealed in his commentary track on the Blu-ray release of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps that he and that film’s young lead, Shia LaBeouf, have discussed reuniting for Pinkville, a Vietnam War investigative drama about the My Lai massacre of March 1968.
Stone said that he and LaBeouf discussed reteaming for Pinkville while they were making the Wall Street sequel. According to the helmer, LaBeouf is interesting in exploring the subject matter because his father was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam.
Pinkville was set to begin filming in Southeast Asia in December 2007, but was shelved at the 11th hour due to the then-impending Writers Guild strike. Stone had assembled a cast that included Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Michael Pena, Woody Harrelson, Xzibit, Michael Pitt, Toby Jones, Jason Behr and Cam Gigandet.
Given his age and his dad’s role in the war, it seems likely that LaBeouf would want to play Hugh Thompson, the role Tatum was initially set to play. Thompson was the U.S. Army helicopter pilot who stopped the massacre — where G.I.s cut down as many as 500 My Lai villagers, many of them unarmed women, children and the elderly — by placing his chopper between the soldiers and the surviving villagers.

The Star did a review of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps DVD and the movie in general. They surely don’t fancy the movie as much as we do (*wink*) but they do recognize Shia’s great talent!
In this belated sequel to the epochal 1980s drama, greed is no longer good — and it’s not much fun, either.
Oliver Stone’s film is as firmly in tune with the headlines as his original Wall Street was 23 years ago. He first examined the capitalistic excesses of the 1980s, where firms were smashed for sport as much as for profit. The sequel takes place during the global economic meltdown of the fall of 2008.
The difference between now and then is that Stone seems far less certain about what he wants to say, and he’s a lot less amusing in how he says it. The clearly defined biblical contest of the first film has been replaced by a blurry battle of pygmies.
Michael Douglas’ rapacious trader Gordon Gekko is back, emerging from eight years in prison for financial crimes committed in the first film. He’s a lonely man, whose daughter Winnie (Carey Mulligan) refuses to see him. But he’s far from broken.
He’s busily hustling his memoirs, and looking to score big dough again, thanks in part to the hustle of Shia LaBeouf’s Jake Moore, a young corporate trader ripe for the taking. Problem: Jake is involved with Winnie.
LaBeouf is the movie’s dramatic centre. At 24, he’s one of America’s best young actors, especially when he gets the right role, as he has here. The story often flags, but he never does.
Extras include a director’s commentary, a conversation with Stone and his cast, plus featurettes about the real Wall Street.

Of course we can’t agree more! =D

Matt Damon mentioned Shia LaBeouf on his latest interview with MTV. Firstly he talked about his role, LaBoeuf in his movie True Grit which resembles Shia’s name, and finally talked about Shia himself.
Matt portrays LaBoeuf in the Coen brothers’ movie True Grit, about a tough US Marshal who assists a young lady in hunting down the murderer of her father. He joked that actor Shia LaBeouf is no relation to his character in the film – whose name is actually pronounced Le Beef.
“Not unless he’s changing his name to Le Beef,” laughed Matt.
On the subject of Shia, Matt was quick to sing the actor’s praises. At the turn of the decade Shia featured heavily in the show Project Greenlight, which was produced by Ben Affleck and Matt among others. Matt says he immediately saw potential in Shia and is thrilled he has gone on to do so well.
“I wish I could take responsibility for his career. He’s a terrific actor and we thought that when we saw him on Project Greenlight,” he told MTV.

In case you missed the news: in October 2010 it was announced that Shia LaBeouf will star in College Republicans, a story of the young politicians during their college days.
We reported last week that Shia LaBeouf was seriously weighing a role in “College Republicans,” a fictionalized story of the late Republican political consultant Lee Atwater and recent presidential advisor Karl Rove during their campus days.
Earlier this week, LaBeouf’s interest in the part was highlighted with the most unexpected of sightings: outside a Washington cafe, where he was spotted underlining passages in a book about Atwater. (The Atwater part is considered the meatier of the two; the film’s plot centers on Rove running for the head of a college Republican group in the 1970s, with Atwater orchestrating his campaign.)
Whether LaBeouf has the acting chops to pull it off is an open question, one we’re sure commenters will have an opinion on. But it’s hard not to be amused, in a general casting sense, about the possibility of an actor who started out as a Disney Channel star and then became the center of a Hollywood action franchise like “Transformers” now inhabiting the part of the cutthroat strategist responsible for George H.W. Bush’s notorious Willie Horton ad. Certainly playing an ends-justify-the-means type would be a refreshing switch after LaBeouf”s idealistic turn in ‘Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.”
Yet for those who admire Atwater as a pivotal figure in Reagan-era political blood sport, the part will be scrutinized with a far more ideological lens. LaBeouf would, it’s safe to say, probably not be the first choice to play Atwater among those who hold Republican values dear. Apart from having little known affinity for the GOP, the actor has been known for assorted bad behavior, particularly with a series of arrests several years ago.
It’s almost easy to hear the chorus of exasperation already: The casting of LaBeouf is further proof that Hollywood is intent on telling its own version of history will little regard to accuracy, and with even less favor for ideologies to which it is unsympathetic.
These critics would have some precedents on their side. The big screen is littered with actors who have little or no connection to, or even resentment for, Republican or right-wing causes, yet end up playing famous 20th century members or affiliates of the party.

Now College Republican‘s screenplay apparently listed on The Black List 2010. This is the list of great screenplays but “put on hold”–which means not will be in production anytime soon.
THE BLACK LIST was compiled from the suggestions of over 290 film executives, each of whom contributed the names of up to ten of their favorite scripts that were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2010 and will not be released in theaters during this calendar year. This year, scripts had to receive at least five mentions to be included on THE BLACK LIST. All reasonable effort has been made to confirm the information contained herein. THE BLACK LIST apologizes for all misspellings, misattributions, incorrect representation identification, and questionable 2010 affiliations. It has been said many times, but it’s worth repeating: THE BLACK LIST is not a “best of” list. It is, at best, a “most liked” list. Enjoy. All black everything.
49. COLLEGE REPUBLICANS by Wes Jones
“Based on true events. Aspiring politician Karl Rove runs a dirty campaign for national College Republican Chairman under the guidance of Lee Atwater, his campaign manager.”

I reeeally hope Shia will eventually sign up to this movie, because it sounds very promising! I know he’s able to pull out any kind of role he wants to play, and that it will turn out great! I’d love to hear some Oscar buzz of Shia, and this type of movie will definitely support him.

Maybe most of you thought that the production was cancelled, but apparently not! According to The Film Stage, actor Tom Hardy will join our man Shia in The Wettest County in the World, an adaptation of Matt Bondurant book directed by John Hillcoat. The movie is set to be filmed started in spring. Here’s the synopsis of the book itself:
This family saga follows the Bondurants, bootlegging brothers runnin’ stills, runnin’ loads, and runnin’ from the law in Depression-era Virginia. The book is mainly narrated through the experience of the youngest Bondurant, Jack (in truth, a grandfather of the author), and his family’s moonshine enterprise supplies the action in a plot that evokes the culture of distilling and distributing white lightning. To optimistic Jack, bootlegging is both a bond to his older brothers, Forrest and Howard, and a means to make cash to impress a girl. Forrest, by contrast, is taciturn and suspicious: the world is violent, and he meets it on that ground. Tender of the stills and imbiber from same, burly Howard is always ready to take on the Bondurants’ enemies, corrupt law officers. Wending through this conflict in flash-forward mode is novelist Sherwood Anderson, who plumbs the Bondurant story a few years after the brothers’ climactic confrontation with the county sheriff. Descriptively gritty and emotionally resonant, novelist Bondurant dramatically projects the poverty and danger at the heart of the old-time bootlegging life.

Finally we got some deeds about the upcoming Transformers movie! The 3D teaser of Transformers: The Dark of the Moon was played in Giornate Professionali di Cinema di Sorrento in Sorrento, Italy. The original trailer will likely be attached in The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Tron: Legacy. Here’s the 3D teaser description according to BadTaste:
Transformers: Dark of the Moon, from the teaser, plays on conspiracy theories related to the moon landing. The first part of the movie alternates images of the control room at NASA and of the astronauts on the moon. The landing is what we know well, including the famous words about the “giant leap for mankind.” But what we did not know was the journey of the astronauts to the dark side of the moon, until the control room tells them that “… we are not alone.” Then we see some Transformers. The camera comes close to the eye of one of them, which starts to flash. But the camera does not stop, and takes us inside the robot and its mechanisms, making us understand that it’s coming back into action.
