As we are having a news drought of our man Shia (who’s currently still filming The Wettest County in the World in Atlanta), I came across the web and found this pretty interesting article from Variety. As you already know, the summer of 2011 will be filled with fun action/sci-fi blockbuster movies including Shia’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon. But with the final installment of Harry Potter, the beginning of Thor, Captain America, and then the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean, which one do you think will win the box office race?
This summer, Hollywood will find out if it can Americanize the world box office by having it adopt the U.S.’ summer blockbuster season.
With four multibillion-dollar franchises — “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Transformers,” “Harry Potter” and “X-Men” — up against high-profile projects like “Green Lantern” and “Captain America: The First Avenger,” the season’s summer blitz pushes blockbusters out within weeks of each other, leaving little room for much else.

SQUEE we finally got the first look of Transformers: Dark of the Moon stills!! Both of them looked awesome — as Shia’s character Sam Witwicky is now a (pretty much) grown up, he wears suit and running from an attack at his office (likely). The second one shows Shia and his new co-star Rosie Huntington-Whiteley hiding behind a school bus.

Oh my goodness, I have some exciting news for Shia’s new and upcoming projects! Shia is reportedly going to star in two movie adaptations of Horns and Preacher which derive from a novel and comic book series respectively. Here are the details:
“HORNS”
Shia LaBeouf is attached to star in the feature film adaptation of the Joe Hill novel Horns. LaBeouf will play Ig Perrish, a 26-year-old who drinks heavily on the first anniversary of his girlfriend’s murder and awakes the next morning with horns growing from his head: “As his horns grow bigger, Ig sets out to investigate the unsolved murder of his girlfriend and the case’s connection to his cursed fate.”
Keith Bunin (In Treatment) will adapt the screenplay for Mandalay Pictures, who optioned Horns in 2009 shortly before the book was published. Hit the jump for the full synopsis, plus a look at the other projects Hill and LaBeouf have in development.
The book synopsis:
Merrin Williams is dead, slaughtered under inexplicable circumstances, leaving her beloved boyfriend Ignatius Perrish as the only suspect. On the first anniversary of Merrin’s murder, Ig spends the night drunk and doing awful things. When he wakes the next morning he has a thunderous hangover . . . and horns growing from his temples. Ig possesses a terrible new power to go with his terrible new look—a macabre gift he intends to use to find the monster who killed his lover. Being good and praying for the best got him nowhere. Now it’s time for revenge . . .
Variety reports that Hill, the son of Stephen King, will executive produce Horns. Hill has two other literary works in the Hollywood development cycle. Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman are developing Heart Shaped Box as a feature film starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan; Jesse McCartney, Miranda Otto, Sarah Bolger, Nick Stahl, and Skylar Gaertner star in the TV series adaptation of Hill’s comic book Locke & Key produced by Steven Spielberg, Josh Friedman, Roberto Orci, and Alex Kurtzman.

“Preacher”
Just about a month ago now, D.J. Caruso officially confirmed his involvement as the director of an upcoming adaptation of the Garth Ennis comic book series “Preacher.” The project has been brewing for a long time in Hollywood, and now it finally seems to be coming together.
…
“It is a crazy road trip and I think what’s amazing and what makes Sony so brave is they can see there’s a real universality to the story when you have good vs. evil,” he told CloneWeb. “I think when you have these crazy characters, that are not necessarily politically correct, there’s something generally attractive to those characters and those elements.”
“But at the end of the day it really is a story about good vs. evil and the decisions that you make,” he added. “So I think there’s a great universality that makes the movie commercial but at the same time it’s one of those that will shock you.”
The interviewer then turned the topic to casting, pressing Caruso for some information. While nothing formal has been discussed, the director admitted that he’s never received so many calls and texts from actors who want a part in his upcoming movie. Pressed again for details, he finally relented and dropped a few choice nuggets.
“An actor I love very much and who I’ve had a conversation with is Chris Pine, for Jesse [Custer, the main character],” he said.
“Shia LaBeouf loves Arseface. He wants to play Arseface. So we’re kind of working that out,” he said, just before a cough is heard offscreen. Alex Pettyfer, Caruso’s “Number Four” star, also participated in the interview, and prompted the director to add one more possibility to the pile.

Neil Burger, director of the formerly titled Dark Fields, Limitless, talked about replacing Shia LaBeouf with Bradley Cooper. A couple of years ago Shia was reportedly joining this movie as the leading man, but apparently the studio had to change him. Here’s what Neil said about Shia’s replacement:
Is it true that you initially had Shia LaBeouf as the lead?
Yeah, the movie was at Universal, and we had trouble finding somebody that was bankable, but not too expensive. So Shia was kind of a younger guy, but an international star with Transformers, so he was going to do it for a while.
It would have been a totally different movie.
Totally. We would have had to rewrite it, because it’s written for a guy in his early thirties that’s really been down that road. But it would have been interesting, but it didn’t happen and I really liked Shia, but it was a blessing for us because The Hangover was just coming out, and Bradley’s star was really rising, and he had always been on our radar, but it was always like, is he bankable? Is any star bankable? And so suddenly maybe he was, and there was a studio that was willing to take a shot with him.
